For a minute there, it felt like the “pre-buy” conversation had gone quiet. Regulations were shifting; there were speculations about what the EPA was going to do next, and many in the industry thought the urgency to secure build slots faded. But behind the scenes, companies were still watching and waiting for a final answer.

Now it’s official, the EPA is holding firm on their 2027 NOx Rule. The EPA will move forward with their 2027 timeline, and the 2027 NOx standard is staying at 35 mg. Since the EPA will not be released until spring of 2026, fleets will have less time to secure 2026 build slots once 2027 pricing is released by OEMs, which re-introduces the risk of going back to a strict allocation environment. This has made the industry snap right back into planning mode.

Companies are already moving up their orders earlier than expected, because calendar years 2025 and 2026 are officially the last comfortable landing zones before everything changes. However, Q3 and Q4 of 2026 are already selling out.

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) will lead its annual Brake Safety Week from August 24–30, 2025, across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. With a specific focus this year on drums and rotors, enforcement efforts will include inspections, education, and immediate out-of-service orders for violations.

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) introduced Operation Safe Driver Week in 2007 as a critical effort aimed at reducing accidents, fatalities, and injuries across all types of vehicles, including heavy-duty trucks, buses, and automobiles. In partnership with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and leading transportation organizations, this initiative continues to be a cornerstone in promoting road safety. This year, Operation Safe Driver Week is scheduled for July 13–19, 2025. Like last year, law enforcement in Canada, Mexico, and the U.S. will focus on reckless, careless, or dangerous driving, pulling over both commercial and passenger vehicle drivers to issue warnings or citations.

National Tire Safety Week (NTSW), led annually by the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA), returns June 30 – July 4, 2025. This nationwide initiative brings attention to the critical role tires play in vehicle safety, especially for heavy-duty trucks and Class 8 fleet operations. And according to the latest TRUST (Truck Reliability Usage Safety Tracker) index when reviewing the CSA scores of the 20 private fleets in the country, tires account for 50% of total vehicle maintenance violations and 83% of out of service vehicle Maintenance violation. This innovative safety index aims to provide benchmarks that address the longstanding issue of safety within transportation, with fleet-specific KPIs to help organizations improve areas of specific operations and elevate their overall CSA (Compliance, Safety, Accountability) scores.

As we kick off June, the “100 Deadliest Days of Summer” are officially underway. This period that runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day consistently sees an uptick in serious and fatal crashes nationwide. And while the spike in risk is often associated with younger or distracted drivers, fleet managers and heavy-duty truck drivers face the ripple effects every single day on the road. 

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) International Roadcheck is scheduled for May 13-15, 2025, and this year’s focus is on tire safety and false records of duty status (RODS).

This 72-hour inspection and enforcement blitz aims to strengthen safety compliance across North America by targeting key areas that directly impact vehicle performance and road safety. This emphasizes the need for proper tire maintenance and accurate, honest RODS documentation both crucial in preventing crashes, avoiding costly out-of-service orders, and ensuring smooth operations for carriers and drivers.
